Early season turns

Some early season skiing before the troops start arriving.

Here is as pic looking out the front/backyard… snow down to lake level.

Not a bad 1st week for the remarks – still lots and lots and lots of snakes in the grass (rocks) but up high the snow is holding up really well.  AJ with his new planks up where the lifts don’t go….

3 weeks later (to the day) I got back up Remarks again with Paul the (reformed) Jibber.  It was a 4 run day and it was awesome.  Snow was fantastic up high and here is Paul at the bottom of his 1st run down Diangulator – and you nailed it mate.  This pic makes it look like it towers over you – that is exactly how it feels.

Paul’s 2nd run….

At the bottom of the 1st run I gave Paul the (reformed) Jibber the camera and went over to steal some fast freshies…..

From the other side of the lake these don’t look like high speed turns, they kinda look like nice tidy little grandma turns…..

This pic gives it a bit of scale……

Being such a nice day we did go a little higher and cheers to the 2 patrollers who boot packed it in for us.  Paul skiing down to me and then me skiing below into the neck of Diangulator.

3hrs north there is a wee club field called Roundhill, not the kind of name that creates much excitement.  I’ve driven past the turn off maybe 30 times and never given it a 2nd thought.

Until this year.

Roundhill just installed the worlds longest (by length and vertical gain) knuckle cracker lift.  It is a fucking monster even by knuckle cracker standards.

So when we heard that Roundhill had 70cms of new snow I thought it warranted a trip.  Txt’s went out and to my surprise Broke Back AJ was keen for a ski which would work in perfectly with his recovery from his spinal surgery 5 weeks ago and Paul the Reformed Jibber wasn’t going to let a broken thumb get in the road of 70cms.

And this is what we got to play with – gotta love Mondays!!!!

My final run for the day consisted of top to bottom virgin pow – no jibbers up here because the lift is too hard to ride (yes AJ and I fell off 3 times between us but Paul nailed it and kicked arse on his first ever knuckle cracker experience).

And here is Broke Back AJ’s last run of the day.

And to finish things off this was the view on the drive home of Mt. Cook.

stuff down here please

    The snakes look SCARY!

  2. Doug – my mate Paul broke his thumb last run of the day after getting snagged. Skis don’t last more than a couple of winters down here.
