I’ve been trying to get down for an exploration mission for weeks but 3 weeks of perma frost made an early start cold and slick on the drive to the trail head. In the end I just had to sack up.
The drive took twice as long as normal and I didn’t get as far up the valley as I wanted but it was a gorgeous day and it was nice to not be playing computer nerd for a day.
This whole area was created by glaciers which retreated 10,000 years ago. I’m really really pissed off at the Moriori for driving their hummers and causing the glaciers to retreat way back then…. thankfully we are more enlightened now and as of July 1st we now have an emmissions trading scheme.
For my foreign buddies: Moriori were the native people of New Zealand before the Maori arrived and wiped them out.
A day in this kind of country makes you feel pretty insignificant, perhaps Al Gore is giving man a little too much credit for changes in our environment. And on a positive note – New Zealands Glaciers are growing (so are Norways and Alaskan Glaciers are still retreating but they are getting thicker)!!!!
Enough of my rant. Here is the Chasm of the Rockburn…. Couple of Rainbow trout were baiting me while I had lunch.
Pic taken looking back at where I had lunch (marked in red).
Look up the Dart Valley….
Here are some pics from Lake Sylvan – it is a Glacial Depression/Moraine. Every time I’m down this way I think that I need to spend more time down here.
