Out of Season Ski
There wasn’t much snow up high this season and as such I didn’t get as much touring in as I had hoped (the Grand Couloir will have to wait for another year). So when AJ called saying he was interest in a post season ski on the peak I was keen to dust off the skins (100% baby seal) and have one last day of … Continue reading Out of Season Ski
Queenstown Kunts
Last weekend a few of the boys and I headed over to Jacksons Bay on our annual ‘Whitebaiting Trip’. Since we’ve never caught much whitebait, there was a rumour about town that we never went whitebaiting and really went to Vegas for a few days. In years past, I’ve been able to name each individual whitebait that I caught….. not this year. For those of you who don’t know … Continue reading Queenstown Kunts
Spring
This will be a bunch of pics from Spring – there will have to be some more posts here but with daylight savings and some stunning days I’m trying to give all the toys a run. Last Tuesday I went for a ski, paraglide, mountain bike ride, a swim, tennis was cancelled so I got in a quick 9 holes instead. Start things off with … Continue reading Spring
Road Trip – Awakino
Awakino is a tiny little club field 3hrs north of Queenstown. For the last 2 years AJ and I have been talking about doing a mission up there. Last weekend we finally shook the sand out of our v-jay-jays and got up there. It has been a tough year snow wise but the planets aligned, the opportunity presented itself and we had a vehicle that … Continue reading Road Trip – Awakino
Justin
Justin was in town for a week or so of ‘man skiing’. We had a little bit of snow and some gorgeous days up high, above the clouds and away from the crowds. The rest of ‘Justins’ crew really couldn’t understand why anyone would go to the Remarkables…… the more people who don’t understand, the better. There were a few a few tumbles caught on film … Continue reading Justin
Bullendale Mission
This was a mission through Skippers Canyon to the base of Mt Aurum (something that will no doubt be climbed/skied in the future). I had read that there was a 4WD track in there…. so I figured I’d use the dirt bike for the first 25kms, then walk the last hour into the hut. Here are some pics of the easy part of the ride. … Continue reading Bullendale Mission
Shazzered
There hasn’t been as many guests this winter… relatively speaking of course. Moc and Steve were here before I arrived, Kronbush was here over New Years, Little Spoon has been here most of the winter, Cole and Gabriella were here in late Jan, Fi and Josh in Feb, Doug and his gaggle of girls are being entertained at the Chateau Grindlay most weeks and Shazza … Continue reading Shazzered
From Snow to Sand
Not sure about his post – kinda boring so I’ll either comment it later or delete it. Darn Aussie birds molesting me….. Continue reading From Snow to Sand
Montana… Mmmmmm
Doug invited Little Spoon and I along for a few days of ‘Man Skiing’ up in Montana. Since I nearly moved to Bozeman a while back I was uber keen to finally ski the area. We had enuf equipment for half of Africa to ski…. downhill gear, skinning gear, couple of sleds, all the ropes required for towing 3 people per sled, kite ski and … Continue reading Montana… Mmmmmm
Darn 30 is old
I’ve been in North America for every Super Bowl since I was 21. My birthday is the week before Super Bowl, just happens that I’ve been in the snow for a few birthdays. 9 years ago I celebrated my 21st in Whistler, with Fi, at a pub called ‘Tommy Africas’ and…. that is all I’m willing to share about the matter. I did learn that … Continue reading Darn 30 is old
Way too much pow!!!
What started as a great season of snowfall, continues as a great season. All in all we had 60 inches of snow last week. On Tuesday we had 28 inches at Breck!!! Little Spoon bought a new video camera and Chris V loaned us his GoPro so we took them out and came back with some fun footage – a monkey could make skiing look … Continue reading Way too much pow!!!
Skiing against snowmobiles
The crazy (holiday) time is over and being a Monday everyone should be back at work. So it was time to get a crew together and head out to Vail Pass to test all the repairs made to Poly the snowmobile. Here is Brett and Doug on his new machine… (I think he was sick of Allison telling him that mine was bigger). Lunch time … Continue reading Skiing against snowmobiles
