Just got home from a shin-dig at Al and Jarisse’s “cabin”. This leads me into the first pic of this post – I lent the Jeep to Californian Doris and Al had lent me the Beater Beamer… again.
The passenger door doesn’t work so here is Daisy Duke (aka Little Spoon) getting herself out of the window for the inaugural run down the backside of Loveland Pass. Wilson is cheering support from the back seat (beer in hand – darn that guys drinks a lot of beer – I’d be getting out of bed – at 1pm – and he’d already have a beer in hand).
As a side note… I got to drive the ‘Beater Beamer’ 3,000 miles in the middle of winter to Canada and back. Al didn’t bat an eye lid as he gave me the keys. Al, you are a crazy bastard…. it was the most dangerous thing I’ve done by far!!!!
After a full day skiing at Loveland we hit up the lake again…. We weren’t sure the ice would hold – we did break through a couple of times but once we were moving we were sweet.
I have to give up a ‘cheers’ to Lisa Doris for her instruction and her kite. Here are the boys laying it down…. (Wilson, me, and Little Spoon). Wilson is doing about 50km/hr here – Little Spoon and I are doing about 80km/hr – the lean should be enuf justification. Bloody snowboarders…..
Lisa Doris, when you ski-kited with us you got a lot of ‘air’. I don’t know how that works wind wise but it ‘happened’ today. I have absolutely no idea how it happened – any ideas on how to make it happen again without me crying? Here I am slowing down from 80km/hr to 50km/hr and having no idea what the hell is going on… where did the ground go?
I’ll vouch for the “beater beamer” it carried us from Big White to Banff in some crazy conditions that our Worls Rally champion driver Mr Tommy G handled with ease and precision.(don’t know about those headlights though.)
Nice work mate and a big cheers to Al for somehow agreeing to let us drive it across Canada and the States.
Lurchy,
Was more like ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ than it was Colin McRae (both are dead now so wasn’t like either of them – it did feel like their last seconds a couple of times though). We were overtaken by fully loaded trucks going uphill – that was after we drifted into the wrong lane after I picked you guys up from the airport. All that time I spend at church paid off then that there was no oncoming traffic – hahahaha.
That is the 2nd time I should have died while being in a vehicle with you. Same bit of road – different direction though.
Driving the Beater Beamer was nuts – I’ve picked out my new hummer so as soon as the Jeep dies you know what car to look for at the airport. No more Beater Beamer.
Was a great gesture from Al I agree, you’ll have to just come over again and thank Al in person.
Tom
