Glenorchy Fishing Comp

The Glenorchy Fishing Comp is a huge fishing event here in the Sth Island – so much so Hughie and Malcome even bought a new boat for it!!!

We didn’t win the fishing side of things but we’ve got the drinking side covered (we didn’t catch a single fish in 4 days).  Some pics of the crew for the weekend.

2 bottles of rum weren’t enuf – I had to switch to beer on the way home…. not happy Jan.

Now we did plan to sleep in the boat.  But a few factors were against us….

  1. Every night it poured rain – the lightening was kewl though.
  2. It was blowing a gail.
  3. Hughie was suffering from some kind of mystery illness – I think it was a big toe injury but he had similar symtoms to a hangover (I’m going with big toe because I can’t believe a scotsman would go an entire day without a scotch).
  4. The final reason against sleeping in the boat was that we found this wicked hut on one of the four islands (Pig, Pigeon, Hidden and Tree) in the lake.  Here are some pics of the hut.

We were told to tie the boat up somewhere more secure but the fire was roaring, the rum was flowing and the euchre (cut down version of 500) was intense.

Subsequently, the next morning took a bit of effort to get the boat off the beach.
