Dave the Sailor and I have had a lot of adventures together over the last decade and a half.
For me the coolest adventure was back in 2010 when Dave invited me to crew on Akimbo in the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race This is Australia’s 2nd biggest ocean yacht race and I never thought I’d get to crew in such a race, let alone on a boat that was fair dinkum and ended up with 3rd line honors!!!!
In this video – I’m at the back in red, not doing much. I might have been invited along for ballast…..
We spent most of the 2008 winter in Queenstown……
Dave isn’t like most of my guests, he doesn’t drink, and he can put up with me for longer. Hahaha, I’m not sure if there is any correlation between those two things but I’m sure scholars will be discussing it in hundreds of years time.
One thing I’ve been looking forward to writing about or just sharing with you guys is this photo!!!! Hahahaha. She is a quarter of your age you dirty old man!!! Why does she have no top on? This is all very strange and needs an explanation……
This old girl has no top either and she is more your age mate….. and probably a speed you can handle. To be honest, Dave looks a lot more comfortable in the Model T.
Dave the Sailor is here to ski and he got to catch up with the Canadian’s Docs. Dave’s 2nd day and he was pounding the Beaver (Creek).
Nevada Bob is someone that Dave hadn’t met but would get to hang out with a bit in this trip…… None of us have a hope, let alone a chance.
The fun part about Dave the Sailor is that he is a million times fitter than me, a million times more coordinated than me and even if he can’t ski for shit, if I tell him I think he can do it, he’ll give it a shot!!!
Back in Queenstown a few years ago, after picking Dave up from the airport we went straight to the ski field for a few runs. I took a call from a mate going up one of the lifts. At the top, I told Dave the Sailor that he was going to wait here for a guy call Shai, and I was going to take his skis down.
We were at the summit and Dave looked a little perplexed as I put his skis on my shoulder. “He knows you have green boots, he’ll be here in 10 minutes, I’ll see you at the bottom.”
I was in a rush and had other work phone calls going on and I had forgotten to tell Dave that he was going to paraglide off the top of the ski area. Dave loved it. But, I do make these assumptions when it comes to Dave the Sailor because he is such a unit.
Last time he was in Colorado, he flew in on Friday night, Saturday morning we were up early and went to Leadville for our first time ski joring. Dave’s first ski run for 18 months, was towed behind a horse down the main street of Leadville. Nobody else I know does that, except Dave the Sailor.
So, this trip, Dave timed it so that he was here for the World Ski Joring Championships.
Dave’s run down Harrison Avenue…….
I was pretty happy with my run…..
I was happy with my run, until I found out the I got my arse kicked by Dave the Sailor. The proof is in our winnings…..
We didn’t cash the cheques of course, Dave and I still have Olympic aspirations and in the words of TJ Burke (Aspen Extreme), “It might jeopardize our amateur status.”
Incline
Kite
St. Paddy’s day with Eric and Andrew….. cluster fuck.
