Late Season

This will just be a collection of photos taken late in the season.

My last stop before Queenstown was with Mr and Mrs Ryan in their beautiful home in San Francisco (sorry G – you did say “I do” so you are now Mrs Ryan although I don’t have the balls to call you that in person).

This trip Cole took me on a ride through the city and we rode across the Golden Gate Bridge.

At 3:30pm the west cost side of the bridge opens to cyclists only – I like this…..

Cole and I stopped in the middle of the bridge and with the strong winds I got to appreciate the 25 foot sway that the bridge was built for.

6 months ago Cole saw a documentary on the suicides that take place from the bridge and 75% of them jump from the city side and only 25% look out towards the ocean.  Cole said if he was to jump he’d go the city side with the majority.  I’d go to the pacific side myself (it doesn’t look that high though – there are a lot of higher things and the Golden Gate seems kinda pussy to me).

The next day, the day I flew out, Cole and I wanted to get in some chess and the Cliff House is my favourite place in San Fran.  We had some time to kill and Cole had a killer hangover so we walked down the coast before the oysters and chess…..  A couple of pics I took on the way – it wasn’t that great a day weather wise but we made the most of it.

A few weeks back Corene and I headed out to Ski Cooper – a wicked little ski resort deep in the rockies and when they close they let you take your sled out on the runs.  Awesome!!!!

These pics were taken on a Tuesday – the snow down low was crappy and everyone else was at work so I thought I’d take on my Nemesis…. Peru Creek.  Earlier in the winter Cole, Gabriella (his wife) and I shot up Peru Creek and got the sled stuck.  After 2hrs of trying to dig it out darkness was against us and we fled – the next morning at 7am Cole and I were at the trail head for the 5mile walk to the sled.

We got it out just fine – then we rolled the sled on the back.  Bruises and even a trip to the doctor resulted.  We only broke $100 worth of parts on the sled though.

So I finally went back up Peru Creek and it was gorgeous….

I looked at the GPS and I was just below 14,000 feet so I scooted up this face and for the first time I was above 14,000 feet.  You’ll notice I didn’t need sherpas – fossil fuels – hell yeah!!!

On the way back down the valley I got the darn sled stuck again!!!  This time only took an hour to dig out.  I was pretty exhausted so I picked out a nearby spot for a scotch lunch.

Between spring storms I’ve been doing a bit of exploring.  Today’s walkabout ended up I was a bit far from home so I thought I’d take a shortcut over the lake.

The day Wilson left Cole arrived for a week of skiing and he timed it well with some good spring storms.  In the 7 days he was here we skied Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek and had an afternoon on the sled.  My boss was nice enuf to give me some time off.

The Chateau Grindlay looks average compared to this joint.

These signs are just made for photographs.
